The Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) Apapa Area Command, on Wednesday vowed to fish out retired officers
who disguise and still carry out operations with unsuspecting importers and agents at the port.

Edike urged the Officer in the CIU department to ensure that they worked with the Deputy Controller in charge of Administration to fish out such retired officers who were alleged to be responsible for shoddy deals.

This came on the heels of complaints by some of the agents that such officers were responsible for making  the processing of their documentation difficult.

Edike however, sounded a note of warning that with respect to the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR)
the NCS would not hesitate to uplift the value if they discovered contradictory reports by importers.

“Call my attention to any issue you feel unsatisfied with. But if your declarations are not true and we find out about it, we will not turn our eyes away from it,” he said.

In this regard also, Mr Olumide Fakanlu, the Apapa Chapter Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents(ANLCA) said that some mistakes still could still be blamed on errors in handling the documentation by the officers.
Deputy Controller, Malanta Yusuf, in charge of the Automated System of Customs Data (ASYCUDA) advised terminal operators to ensure they got all necessary reports in place before inviting the customs for container examination.

The controller advised that the importers and agents should direct their complaints about port pass to the Nigerian Ports Authority.
