The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Prince Adewale Adeyanju has applauded the Managing Director of Ports and Terminal Multi services Ltd (PTML) over training sponsorship of five Dockworkers, who are members of the MWUN and in the employment of PTML under RORO Tin-Can Island District for Mobile Crane Operation (RTG) to Germany and Holland respectively.
The workers concerned at the PTML Unit have acquired specialised training on RTG operation both in Germany and Holland, and had returned to Nigeria after their successful programmes.
Prince Adeyanju who is the foremost maritime labour leader, Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and also the Vice President Global, International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) commended the Managing Director of PTML, Ascario Russo, for being magnanimous enough to see reasons for training and retraining the workers for the purpose of pragmatic output in today’s modern industrial development and growth, such that would match the growing pace of global maritime practice.
Prince Adeyanju described Mr. Russo as an advanced maritime industrial guru who has foresight towards manpower development in conformity with efforts to reposition PTML for rapid progression in a more prosperous maritime outfit in the country and to measure at par with her counterparts across the globe.
“The Maritime Workers Union is absolutely impressed and grateful to the management of PTML over this wonderful gesture and prays that this symbiotic relationship between PTML and MWUN will continue to wax stronger in all ramifications,” Adeyanju said.
Prince Adeyanju also wants to use the opportunity to appeal to other stakeholders in the industry and Terminal Operators to follow suit and emulate the good deeds of PTML.
He believes that such manpower development would effectively and efficiently improve and impact immensely on workers’ psyche for maximum industrial growth and productivity.
