AMES elects Obadan as president…plans membership drive
Engr. Israel Obadan has emerged as the president of the Association of Marine Engineers and Surveyors (AMES), after his nomination that was unopposed.
In his acceptance speech at the end of the association’s Annual General Meeting and election on Saturday, Obadan promised to work with other members of the newly-elected executives to ensure a vibrant association.
He promised to ensure membership awareness as well as the establishment of branches of the association in other locations including Port Harcourt and Warri as well as in the Diaspora.
His words: “My presidency shall immediately move to rent or own a secretariat fit for AMES; communication with national and international members; direct membership awareness drive, encouraging younger professionals to come on board.
“I will also ensure the adoption/operation of AMES Constitution; modalities for financial contributions to drive the association; comprehensive listing and reach-out to AMES members.”
The new AMES president also promised to keep reaching out to maritime establishments and re-emphasising the role of AMES in the growth of the maritime industry.
Meanwhile, other members of the new AMES executives include Engr. John Oyedeji as the 1st Vice-president; Engr. Akeem Oderinde, 2nd Vice-president; Engr. Abuja Kato, General Secretary; Engr. Obi Cornelius, Assistant General Secretary; Engr. Kuzi Onyibe, Treasurer; Engr. Etang Asuquo, Financial Secretary; and Engr. Hector Jombo as the Social/Publicity Secretary.
The immediate past president of the association, Engr. Adeyinka Okunade, takes up the position of ex-officio member.
The association said it would announce a date for the induction of the new executives.
