NCS impounds rice, used cloths, dairy products at Badagry

The
Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday said it
impounded 60 bags of rice, eight bales of used clothes and
  16 cartoons of condensed milk.
Controller
of the command, Johnson Gabriel, said in Lagos that the seizure was made at the
Badagry waterside on Oct. 2.

Gabriel
said that while the value of the goods was N677,740.00, the duty was N223,
398.00, bringing  the Duty Paid
Value(DPV) to N901, 138.00
According
to the controller, the operatives of the command are prepared to frustrate  every attempt
at smuggling, irrespective of the quantity of goods involved.

The mandate of the command is to ensure that smuggling is curtailed
completely  and this means  zero tolerance for the act.
“We
are not looking at how small the goods involved is, so long as  they are smuggled items.
“We
know the tricks that some of these people use; they bring some of these goods
in small quantities  and in the guise to
make it look insignificant,“he said.
It
could be recalled that shortly before Oct. 1, which was Nigeria’s independence
anniversary, the command  impounded some bags of rice within the Novo Creeks
along  Badagry.
